  1. Studies of organic petrography

Organic petrography studies are directly applied in the appraisal process of petroleum potential of sedimentary basins, oil systems and plays, from determinations of type, quality, abundance and maturity of the dispersed fossil organic matter in sedimentary rocks. Also, studies of liquid hydrocarbons provide parameters and physical properties that complement those diagnoses related to a field’s condition and production’s enhancement. Organic petrography studies provided by the IMP are:
    • Optical studies in rock.
    • Type of dispersed fossil organic matter in light transmitted and in fluorescent light.
    • Quality of dispersed fossil organic matter in transmitted light and in fluorescent light.
    • Abundance of dispersed fossil organic matter in light transmitted and in fluorescent light.
    • Maturity of dispersed fossil organic matter in transmitted light and in fluorescent light.
    • Reflectance of lignocellulous materials in reflected while light.
    • Reflectance of bitumens in reflected white light.
    • Fluorescence of highly hydrogenated materials in fluorescent light (UV).
    • Sampling on site.
    • Optical studies in oils.
    • Hydrocarbons’ fluorescence (UV light).
    • Optical fluorescence study in the different hydrocarbons’ mixtures (360 – 690 nm).
    • Determination of pollutants in oils (chemical compounds).
    • Determination of mineral matrix in oils (calcium carbonates, dolomite and halite).
    • Determination of migra-bitumens in oils.
    • Determination of bacteria in oils.
    • Determination of sulphur in oils.
    • Determination of API degrees in oils.
    • Sampling on site.

    Benefits:
The value generated with these studies is the type, quality and quantity determination of hydrocarbons’ generating organic matter; this information is fundamental for the clients’ exploration strategies.

    Relevant experiences:
    • Laboratory analytical services for exploration assets.
    • Determination of organic microfacies.
    • Optical analysis.
    • Technical assistance and specialists’ formation in organic petrography.

Requirements: Depending on the user’s needs and requirements.

Cost: Variable price depending on scope.
