Products and services:
  1. Geochemical studies.

Geochemical studies provided by the IMP are focused in identifying and characterizing different hydrocarbon compounds in their geological surroundings, defining their origin and molecular evolution in time and compositional distribution in space. Analysis results and laboratory tests in rocks, oils, gases and waters are integrated, with geological and geophysical information, for the following applications:

    Exploration geochemistry:
    • Characterization of hydrocarbon generating rocks.
    • Characterization of crude oils in terms of origin, deposit environment, age, degree of thermal maturity, post-deposit disturbances, etc.
    • Identification of maturity degree and migration characteristics of oils and gases in order to define their origin, thermal history and migration pathways and integrate this information in the geological context of hydrocarbons producing areas.
    • Individual filling points, for contribution when defining exploratory strategies within individual fields.
    • Identification of accretions in non-perforated intervals.

    Fields’ and Production Geochemistry:
    • Compartment/connectivity identification as support in the elaboration of production strategies.
    • Determination of isolated or connected rock zones, through oil –oil geochemical correlations.
    • Monitoring of water invasion and prediction of wells to be invaded.
    • Identification of tar carpets. Contributes to avoid plugging of wells and production lines in general, as well as the detection of possible barriers to the flow of fluids.

    Environmental geochemistry:
    • Geochemical characterization and quantification of polluting elements and compounds present in the environment, diagnosis of sources and remedial processes design.

    Benefits:
Geochemical studies provide clients, in exploration and production, the quality appraisal of hydrocarbon generating and storing rocks and oils and gases compositions; also, they provide qualitative and quantitative information about concentrations of hydrocarbon compounds located in specific areas as pollutants.

    Relevant experiences:
    • Geochemistry in the asset Samaria- Sitio Grande”.
    • Geochemistry of Jujo –Tecominoacán fields.
    • Geochemical and petrographic study of Samaria-Sitio Grande fields.
    • Appraisal of presence of generating horizons in Juliva.
    • Geochemical study of the asset field Samaria-Luna.
    • Geochemical study in wells from the asset Ku-Maloob-Zaap.
